UGANDA SKATEBOARD SOCIETY

It’s an unusual place to see a skatepark, Uganda, but at the very edge of the main road through Mukono, I can see 10-20 youngsters with skateboards and some serious skills riding some equally impressive ramps, especially by Ugandan building standards.

I was intrigued after passing it a few times previously so this time on the way back from Kampala we pulled over in and made our way into the school grounds and towards the park and the riders.

I was met by one of the older boys called Trevor who turned out to be a seriously powerful skater. Trevor didn’t tell me much but he did say I needed to speak to Gerrad, I took both the numbers I needed and the boys were happy with me to make some photos with my phone as they skated.
